Photography Studio - Workshop

During todays lesson we had a workshop in the photography studio where Scott gave us a run through on how the equipment in the studio works.

The lay out for the studio the backdrop is centred and there are studio lights, to the side and at the back.
In the session we looked at 3 point lighting;
1.The first light is called the model light and lights the model this light can be used solely with the hair line light to create a shadowed effect on half the face of the model.
2.The second light is the fill light to fully light the models face and body.
3. The third light is the hair line light to light the back go the model's head and separate the model from the backdrop.
In the session we looked at the setting on the camera, for example;
- shutter speed
- auto focus / manual focus

On the lighting there are dials to adjust the strength of the flash which is called a flash unit and ranges from 1- 6. The lights shouldn't be set too high or the lighting will be too strong and make the model blink.

Masthead

These were the original ideas for my magazine masthead after asking people what they thought they suggested all the designs being available in red. Majority of people asked favoured the first design.
I then started to develop this design in different colour arrangements.
After developing the design and colours I realised mixing the colours was not creating the effect i wanted.
I then developed this design for my magazine so it incorporated both the red and white and black.

My Magazine Proprosal Pitch

During the pitch I received feedback on what masthead I should use and the colours. In the video many people were shouting out their opinions about what masthead they prefered so after i went around the class and asked each student to vote on what masthead they liked and in which colour.
I also did more research outside of the classroom asking students around the college as my magazine is also aimed at them.
Originally many prefered the masthead which was staggered in the colour red or black.
I also received a comment on why my magazine was called "THE RANGE" and not just "RANGE" my reason for this is because I feel that the use of the "THE" adds more emphasis to the title and makes it seem like a original.
